Kentner Stadium

A hub of activity for Wake Forest athletics and the campus community, Kentner Stadium primarily serves as the home of the three-time national champion Wake Forest field hockey team and the Demon Deacon men's and women's track and field teams.

Built in 1990 as Campus Stadium, the facility seats nearly 4,000 spectators and includes amenities such as a pressbox, upper level viewing area, lights, a state-of-the art scoreboard and concessions.

The field hockey pitch at Kentner Stadium is AstroTurf, which provides a fast and reliable playing surface for the Deacons year-round.

In 1997, what was once Campus Stadium became Kentner Stadium, named in honor of Jeff Kentner ('78) of Charlotte, N.C. Kentner, president and owner of State Street Partners, Inc., made one of the largest gifts to the Touchdown 2000 athletic fundraising effort.

In the summer of 2004, Kentner Stadium underwent a multi-million dollar renovation. Field Turf and Ballard Sports installed Astroturf 12 with PVC foam pad on top of Porous Asphalt, making the surface safe for intramural uses and fast for the field hockey team. Also included in the renovation was the addition of six large water cannons and two manual ones, to help maintain the AstroTurf.

Prior to 1990, the field hockey team competed on the natural grass surface of Polo Field, which now serves as the site of Spry Stadium and the Wake Forest soccer programs.

Kentner Stadium has hosted six ACC Field Hockey Tournaments (1992, 1993, 1999, 2004, 2010, 2016), two ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships (1995, 2006) and four NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships (1995, 2004, 2006, 2009). The facility will again host the NCAA Field Hockey Championship in 2019.

The 1995 NCAA Field Hockey Championship marked the first time a national title had been determined in a campus facility.

In addition to hosting intercollegiate athletics, Kentner Stadium is also the site of the annual Forsyth County Special Olympics

Kentner Stadium has many uses outside of the athletic department. The Health & Exercise Science department uses the track for a variety of academic classes, while the intramural office takes advantage of the stadium for a number of sports. Students, faculty and campus staff are also seen frequently using the stadium's track to either run or walk during lunch time or after classes.

The Kenneth D. Miller Center overlooks the south endzone of Kentner Stadium. The 50,000-square foot facility, which serves a number of purposes within the Wake Forest athletic department, was opened in the fall of 2001.
